The Terraform provider alone justifies the move
We migrated 40-odd instances off a much bigger cloud last spring and the thing that sold us was that `terraform plan` actually matches what happens. No phantom diffs, no resources that only exist in the console. Boot times are consistently 15-20s for our base image. Bill has been within 4% of forecast every month for a year. Support took eleven hours to answer a P3 once, which is why this isn't five across the board, but the answer when it came was from someone who'd clearly read our config.
Best API I've used, and I've used most of them
Everything is a resource, everything is idempotent, the error messages tell you which field is wrong. Sounds basic. Almost nobody gets it right. Scaling groups took me an afternoon to understand and have never surprised me since.
Great compute, mediocre managed Postgres
Compute side is excellent and I'd recommend it without hesitation. The managed database is where I'd push back — seven days of PITR is not enough for a production system and we ended up running our own Patroni cluster on their instances instead, which rather defeats the point. Everything else is solid.
Thanks for the detailed feedback - we have passed this to the team and would like to look into your account if you can get in touch.
Solid, but the overnight support gap hurt us
We had a storage volume detach itself at 2am during a maintenance window we hadn't been notified about properly. Instance came back but the mount didn't, and the on-call ticket sat for five hours because our plan doesn't include phone escalation. They credited us afterwards and were genuinely apologetic, and they've since changed how maintenance notices go out. Still, four stars not five.
Two years in, no bill surprises
I run a moderately busy API on them, maybe 3TB egress a month. The free 2TB tier plus their per-GB rate after that means I pay roughly a fifth of what the hyperscaler quote was. Autoscaling handles our morning spike fine. One control plane outage in two years, about 40 minutes, running instances were unaffected and the postmortem was published in three days with actual detail in it.
Fine if you already know infrastructure
This is not a beginner platform and it doesn't pretend to be. There's no one-click WordPress, no app marketplace, you get an instance and an SSH key. If that's what you want it's great. If you were hoping for hand-holding, look elsewhere. Docs are dense but accurate. I had to open a ticket about a network ACL and waited most of a working day for a reply.
About Ironvale Forge
Ironvale Forge is rated 4.2 out of 5 from 6 customer reviews on HostSerp.
A developer-first IaaS platform built around a declarative API and a first-party Terraform provider. Ironvale Forge sells plain compute, block storage, and managed Postgres across nine regions, with per-second billing and no charge for the first 2 TB of egress. It targets small engineering teams who want primitives rather than an opinionated app platform.

Ironvale Forge has spent five years resisting the urge to become a platform-as-a-service, and the discipline shows. The API is coherent, the CLI mirrors it exactly, and the Terraform provider is maintained by the same team that ships the control plane rather than bolted on months later. Instances boot in under twenty seconds and the autoscaling groups behave predictably under burst, which is more than can be said for several larger competitors. The generous egress allowance removes the single most common source of cloud bill shock, and the cost explorer flags anomalies before the invoice does. Support is the soft spot: technically excellent once you reach a real engineer, but the standard plan routes through a queue that can sit for six or seven hours overnight. The managed database offering is also thinner than the compute side, with no point-in-time restore beyond seven days.
