Cheapest usable VPS I've found
3.50 a month for 2GB RAM and 40GB storage on annual billing. It's a shared vCPU so don't expect miracles, but for a staging box, a small relay and a few cron jobs it's completely adequate. Provisioning took about four minutes, which is slow by 2026 standards, but at this price who cares.
Renewal invoice nearly doubled
Signed up on what the checkout page called a locked-in price, then the renewal came in at 89 instead of 47 with no warning other than the invoice itself. Support said the rate applied to the first term only, which is not how that page read to me. The server was fine. The billing left a bad taste and I moved.
You get what you pay for, mostly
Ran fine for seven months, then the node went noisy - load average of 6 on a box where I was doing essentially nothing. Support moved me to a different host after two days of back and forth and it's been stable since. So they do fix things, they just make you prove the problem first.
Overselling is real here
iowait regularly sits above 30% during European evenings. I benchmarked the same workload against a box costing three times as much and got roughly four times the throughput, so the cheap option was actually worse value per unit of work. Fine as a jump host. Not fine for a database.
Does the job for a hobby project
Two years hosting my club's site and a small game panel. Two outages in that time, both under an hour. The control panel looks like it was written in 2011, but reinstall, snapshots and the VNC console all work, and root really is unrestricted - I've compiled my own kernel modules on it without anyone complaining.
About CopperCrate VPS
CopperCrate VPS is rated 3.0 out of 5 from 5 customer reviews on HostSerp.
A budget-tier VPS operator selling shared-vCPU KVM slices from around $3.50/month on annual prepay, running on previous-generation Xeon hardware with SATA and SSD storage. Unrestricted root, VNC console and snapshots are included even on the cheapest plan. Positioning is openly cost-first: older kit, denser packing, lower price.

CopperCrate is refreshingly upfront about what it is - a dense, low-margin operator squeezing value out of hardware a generation or two behind the leaders. At the entry price the maths works: you get a real KVM instance with unrestricted root, a working console and snapshots, which is more than several pricier hosts manage. The compromise shows up under sustained load, where iowait and noisy-neighbour contention are common complaints, and in a control panel that has clearly not been redesigned in a decade. Support does eventually resolve node-contention cases, but only after you have documented the problem yourself. Renewal pricing is the sharpest edge - several customers report promotional rates that quietly did not survive the first term. Fine for staging boxes, bots, jump hosts and hobby projects; a poor fit for anything with a database under real traffic.
